Alexander Macrae established the brand speedo in 1914 and since then it has become synonymous with athletic swimwear and underwater sports. It has seen two world wars and was nearly shut down during the Second World War due to the manufacturer producing supplies for the war. In 1955 Speedo revolutionised competitive swimwear by introducing nylon into its products, and this in turn saw the introduction of the men’s “speedo” briefs which is often associated with the brand. Speedo manufacturers goggles, swimming caps, robes, clothing, sandals, watches, fins, earplugs, lifeguard gear and much, much more.
