Hand spears are essentially a spear pole with a small rubber attached. You slip your hand into the rubber and grab high up the spear pole to load the hand spear. You will need to get closer to your prey with a hand spear as they are less powerful. Once you are in range, line the fish up and release the hand holding the spear to fire it.
